Is anyone out there any good at untangling thread? I was winding a bobbin and it was almost full when suddenly I saw this. The bobbin broke right in half! I've never had this happen before. It's always something around here! LOL
Haven't seen this before, looks like the bobbin winder just overfilled the bobbin. Things like this keep sewing interesting-----or confusing, I don't know which.
I have a Bernina Esante 2 and I have broken every single bobbin exactly this way. I have no idea what causes it, but since I only use it for embroidery I just bought prefilled bobbins...
It happens to me all the time with monofilament thread, but never with regular thread. I wonder if the bobbin had just gotten old and the plastic weakened. Bummer!!!
It has happened to me... several times...and on the large metal bobbins that my longarm uses..I think the problem is with polyester/man made threads, which are wound on too quickly, which causes the thread to heat up, then expands, which puts pressure on the bobbin..a husqvuarna dealer told me many years ago, that bobbins should be wound slowly..and with a loose tension..HTH
Oh my gosh! I've never seen a bobbin break like that. Hope you can "untangle" the thread...if you're like me, you'd hate to have to waste it! :o( However, with that said, what a job!!!
Egads! With that much thread on it, I would probably save it for hand sewing until you got to the impossible tangles and then toss it. Although sometimes I am up for the challenge of detangling things. I have done with kite strings before.
That is absolutely the worst thread mess I've ever seen. And, I've never heard of a bobbin breaking. Guess we always have to have something happen to keep us on our toes, even if it is very frustrating. Nola

Oh my, I have never heard of that happening before. Yikes!
Haven't seen that but I wouldn't try to untangle it, I would just toss it in the trash and get another bobbin.
OMG I have never seen that before either.... good luck! xx
Oh I've never had that happen before...time for a new bobbin!

lol, rather you than me! Emily was brave even trying to get it sorted
I never had it happen to me but I think Emily will save it for you.

I have never!!! looks like what is on my floor!! HA!
I'd be annoyed at the waste of thread. I've not had that happen either.
I don't know if this is any consolation but that's pretty thread. The photo came out with a nice look. ? :0
Oh dear! how annoying!!!!
I've never heard of this happening, I prefer metal bobbins myself, now I know why LOL!!!

It happened to me once, and with a metal bobbin. It went in the trash. So sorry!
I agree - what a mess! I've never seen that happen, but there's always a first time.
