I've been saving scrap strips for a long time, and the tub I keep them in is overflowing. I've wanted to make a scrappy log cabin quilt to use up some of those strips. Well, last night it hit me that I just needed to get started on that. So I pulled out the tub of strips and started sewing. Once I had a few rows sewn on, I wanted to decide how big to make the blocks. So I got out a few of my square rulers. One was too big and one was too small for what I had already sewn together. But the smaller one set on an angle resulted in this cute little wonky log cabin block. The only problem is that it's just 4-1/2 inches square unfinished. I love this little block, but it will take forever making blocks this small to use up my scraps. So I've decided to make myself a little wall quilt out of these smaller blocks, but then I'll work on a larger block to make a larger quilt to use up more of my scraps. I certainly didn't need another project, but it is what it is! LOL

Emily is in the marching band this year at school. It's her first year and she had to go to band camp for three weeks to learn the songs and the marching. Thursday night they had a preseason performance for the parents and they did such a good job. I'm not a big football fan but I think I might just have to go to some of the games this fall to see them march again! :0)

You might not need another project, but it will look lovely as a quilt and a wall hanging. You could even do matching pillows
Good for Emily!! I was once in the marching band (maybe a century or so ago). The memories are such wonderful ones so I trust she is stacking up some memories of her own. Have a great weekend.
I love log cabin blocks too but love how the wonky ones look better than the traditional ones. That's a great project to do to use up scrap strips that are too small for much else. They'd also make great separator blocks for our scrappy stars !

Cutting off grain give your wonky log cabin such character, love it. My three nieces were all in band in Fremont. I could never understand how they could march in formation and play at the same time, I have trouble walking and chewing gum. Guess I will stick to quilting, but on second thought, wasn't I the one who had the ruffle borders this week? Bigger is definitely better.
Cute blocks! Especially being so small. But, I can imagine you don't want to make a big quilt with them.
How proud you must be of your daughter!
Sweet little bock it is cut wonky. I have been cutting scraps too. Some using my GO!.
Still have another box to go through, oh yeah and a bag! OH NO!
Terry that's a great project to keep handy for those times when you want to sew, but don't know what. Or if you have just a few minutes. I think it's awesome, I love that wonky block! Good for Emily, what a fun thing to do, and YES you'll have to go see her march!
Sweet wonky block. A new project - woohoo!!!! Enjoy.
Emily is going to have so many wonderful memories of high school and the marching band.
Emily will have a blast!! And you'll find yourself routing for the home team once you get to the game!! Sometimes if the band leader is colorful, it's more fun to watch the band then the game!
Cute block Terry.
I KNOW you are going to have to go to the games!!!!
I think the log cabins are a great use of scraps. I have been doing those as leaders and enders and I am doing mine at 6.5 inches. I think they will make a great scrap project.
Love the little block. No seams to match.
They did do a very good job of marching and playing at the same time. I really enjoyed it.
Just love your wonky log-cabin block, what a great idea!! These will be just so cute! How nice to see Emily in the band, a great experience for her!
Of course you are going to those games, the entertainment is going to be wonderful! She will have a great time!
I'm doing crumb blocks at the moment in an attempt to tame the scrap box and I'm trimming them to 4 1/2... I must be a little bonkers but as my longest strips were about 5" it seemed to make sense at the time. I haven't counted but I must have over 200 blocks so far! I have no idea what I'll make with them but it is easier to store blocks than scraps :-)
