Camo Wall Quilt

Now that the Christmas gifts have been opened, I can finally show you the new wall quilt I made for Emily. It started out to be a pillow, but it got a bit big for that, so a wall quilt is what she got. And she must like it because it's already up on her wall! :0)

Red, White & Blue for Christmas

I can finally show you a quilt I've been working on for a while now. I got the top done in November and then sent it off to Joanne for quilting. I got it back a couple of weeks ago and got the binding on and got it all washed and dried and snuggly. And today it went to its new home. This is the lady who drove the bus when my kids went to kindergarten, and then again when they went to junior high and high school. She's just retired...Friday was her last day. And since this was the last Christmas/end-of-the-year gift we'd be giving her as our bus driver, and because it was to celebrate her retirement too, I wanted to make it special. I asked her favorite colors and she told me red, white and blue. I went digging in my stash and found all the fabric I needed to make this...I just had to buy a sheet for the backing.

Ornaments for the tree

Today Emily and I finished our Christmas shopping. While we were out, I found a few new ornaments to add to our Christmas tree. I just loved this Santa, and I thought the tree and heart were so pretty.

Last night Emily had a friend over and they wanted to tie-dye t-shirts. I decided to do one too, and we had so much fun. Here we are wearing our new shirts...we both love them! :0)

Beautiful art

Some of you may already be familiar with the artist Michelle Palmer. If you're not, I suggest you check out her blog HERE. She makes such beautiful things. I fell in love with her pen and ink drawings, and yearned to have one of my own. Then one day, I saw on her blog several adorable sewing themed pieces. I ran right over to her Etsy shop and was lucky enough to make four of them mine. Since then they've been sitting on my sewing table patiently waiting for me to do something with them. One day I saw another blogger had attached hers to little canvases with little easels. I couldn't find those, but I did find some fat square canvases that I thought might work. It took me a while to figure out how to get this project all together, but I finally did and here they are.

I backed each drawing with a contrasting piece of brown fabric, then I sewed those both onto the backing fabric. Once that was done, I centered the whole thing on the canvas, pulled the backing fabric to the back, and stapled it in place. I love them all, but this little bird is my favorite! And yes...that's a little plant pot full of scissors! I love being able to see them all there. :0)

Blogger Shenanigans

We all know that from time to time, blogger changes things on our blogs without our knowledge or approval. Well, they've done it again. I saw on several blogs today that blogger had added a word verification, or in this case a number verification, when readers try to comment. After checking out my blog comments, sure enough there it was. I've changed my settings to remove it now. Kathy did a great post explaining how to fix this issue, so if you have the same problem, just read her post here and you can change your settings in just a minute.

And I know this doesn't really show you much, but I have been doing some secret sewing for Christmas that I can't show you yet. This project is done, and I have one more to get the binding on. Then I think I'm ready for Christmas! :0)

EDITED:  I had a nice comment from Carole this afternoon and she's done a blog post on this issue, or part of it at least. You can find it HERE. Also, if your comment doesn't show up on my blog for some reason, you can always just email me. There's a link to my email address near the top of my sidebar.

Gingerbread

Every year for as long as I can remember, we've bought a gingerbread house kit for the kids to put together. One year the neighbor girl helped. Last year my mom was here and she even helped. Today Emily and a friend of hers put together the one we bought last week. I wasn't here to see the big event, but I did get pictures of the finished product, which is, to say the least, interesting! LOL First of all, here's a nice picture of the one we did last year...

Isn't it pretty? Now...take a look at the one the girls did tonight...duct tape and all! LOL

I was pretty much speechless when Emily showed it to me! LOL But they had fun putting it together, and that's all that matters. :0)

Seriously...

How can it possibly be December already? Time always seemed to go by fast for me, but since I started working back in March, it literally flies by. I really miss my sewing...it seems like it's always the last thing I get to when I do have a day off work. Oh well...it is what it is and I just have to deal with it.

I hope you've all been doing a lot of sewing! I've been visiting blogs when I can, and have seen lots of lovely charming star blocks and tops out there in blogland. I haven't sewn one block since last month, although I'm off work tomorrow and hope to get to some sewing then.

If you're following the sew-along schedule, this is the month to make the last four blocks for your quilt. Next month we'll be adding sashing and cornerstones (for those of you using sashing and cornerstones) and then the sew-along will be over. And since I don't have any new blocks of mine to show you, here's a pic of the way it looked before I took it down off my design wall. I do have more blocks made, but this is all that would fit. Next time I'll have to take the picture of the blocks laid out on the living room floor. As I said, maybe tomorrow. :0)
