Never-ending yard work

Still no sewing going on here. It's all I can do to work and keep up with the yard work. It's been a few years since we mulched the flowerbeds. The only one I've gotten done this year is the one by the deck, but it makes it look so much better. The others may have to wait until later this summer or even next year. But still, one done is better than none.

The other day there were several of these butterflies on my purple coneflowers. You can see how badly the Japanese beetles have damaged the coneflowers. They've been wreaking havoc with my yellow rose too. Still, it's lovely to see the butterflies in the garden! :0)

  1. Gorgeous butterfly! M;y dh does most of our gardening/yard work, or it wouldn't get done.

  4. I am impressed with what you have done in your yard, since I have done absolutely nothing this year. Can I hire you? : )
Health issues, weather and travel combined to make it a non-gardening year for me. There is always next year.
I believe that is a Red Admiral butterfly. I used to be a 4-H leader in entomology.

  5. I always love your photos. We have an enormous garden and weeding is a never ending cycle (which means there are always weeds somewhere in the garden!!).

  6. Your flower bed looks absolutely lovely, Terry. The heat has been so bad here that we can't spend too much time outside. My flower beds are in sad shape!

  7. Gardening always takes so much time. I know what you mean about little time for anything else. Beautiful butterfly!

  8. That area looks great. With all of the rain, weeds are running rampant!! We finally got mulch this year after several without...put the grandsons to work! 😀 I think the Japanese beetles have been awful this year, my flowers show it. Been using Sevin.

  13. Looks great, the beetles are here too......I need to bite the bullet and get milky spores and be done with them, don't want to use any chemicals.

  16. Your flower bed looks great! About all the yard work I have done so far is mow the grass. Though I did plant some wild flower seed in my little flower bed in front of the house.
