More snow

I know I'm not the only one saying this, but seriously...enough is enough! Springtime, where are you??

New curtains

I recently decided it was time for new curtains in the living room. I know I could make curtains, but I wasn't in the mood, so I went in search of something at the store that I liked. This is as close as I got! LOL I've always had just a straight valance at this window, so these definitely give it a different look. Then I decided I wanted to try to make a curtain to match for the back of the living room at the french doors. Only one door opens, but that still meant a very short valance was all that would fit there. So back to the store I went for a second set of curtains I could cut down.

And this is what I ended up with. I think the curtain looks so much better there than the ugly plastic cover that came with the vertical blinds. Now I've been adding a touch of red here and there in the living room to try to pull it all together.

Two years ago...

Actually, when I looked it up, it was February 2013 that I brought home this beautiful cross stitch wall hanging from my mom's. She had made it with her stitching friends many years ago. At the time, the colors she used to make the cross stitch into this little wall quilt were all the rage. I've had it up on the wall in my sewing corner since I got it, and while I loved the cross stitch part of it, the rest of it really didn't match anything in my living room. I had asked mom if she would mind if I took it apart and redid it, and of course she didn't. So yesterday I started, and cut the cross stitch out of the middle of the little quilt.

Today I bordered it with some black fabric, got it quilted and bound, and now it's hanging in a new spot in my living room. I even had this sewing machine hanger to hang it from. I love how simple this is...I think the cross stitch is more the focal point now, which is just what I wanted. I really do love it! :0)

Pins and Needle Keep

I recently needed to make a small gift for a friend, and I thought a little needle keep and some pretty pins would do nicely. I've wanted to make some beaded pins for a while now, so I made up a few. I just used some beads that I had on hand.

And here is the needle keep, made of felt and wool felt. Looking at it now, I should have sewn down the flower and the leaf and the button, but I was in a hurry to get it finished. I'll do better next time! :0)

PIF Number Two

The second PIF I made has arrived at its new home, so now I can show you what I made Anita! It's another disappearing hourglass block. If you look closely, you might notice it's a bit different than the other one I made. I made this one first, and actually made the cuts wrong...at 1-1/2 inches instead of 2 inches. All that did was make the star smaller and the triangles in the corners bigger. I actually like it both ways.

I've been having issues getting comments to come to my inbox like they're supposed to, and just now when I went back to my PIF post to get the link to Anita's blog, I saw a comment from another blogger who wanted to take part in my PIF. So Kate...I'll be emailing you shortly to get your info.

I always reply to every comment on my blog, so if you comment and I don't reply, it either means you came up as a no-reply blogger, or I never saw the comment. Unfortunately I can't go back to every post to see if I got all the comments emailed to me or not. Maybe one of these days blogger will just play nice and we won't have to deal with all these issues. We can dream, right? LOL

One PIF Received

I got a lovely email today from Terry letting me know she had gotten the PIF I sent to her, so now I can show you what I made. It's a candle mat made using the disappearing hourglass pattern you can fine HERE. It looks like a complicated block but it's really easy. I'd love to make a whole quilt of these blocks someday.

A little linty

So, how often do you clean out your sewing machine? After I finished with my snowball quilt yesterday, I decided it was time. I knew I hadn't cleaned this one yet since I got it, which was maybe late summer? Well, I looked back on my blog and I got this machine the beginning of April! So as I always say, better late then never. My machine's manual didn't say anything about taking the metal plate off, but I did that too and good thing because the back half was just as nasty as the front half. And there was lots of gunk between the feed dogs too. I think maybe I ought to make a note on the calendar a few months from now to clean it out again so I don't forget! LOL

Lots of bright snowballs

It's been nice having a few days off work. It's given me time to sew. Yesterday I made two more rows for my snowball quilt, and today I did three more. I've now decided this one is done. It ended up being 11 rows by 12 rows, which makes it about 66" by 72". I did the math and I used up 660 scrap 2-1/2 inch squares in this quilt.

This is all that's left of my scrap squares. I'm sure I'll find something to do with them. :0)

A little treat for me

I was out shopping today and saw these cute little bunnies. They were cheap...only a few dollars each...so I bought them and brought them home. I've put them on the hutch in my sewing corner and I think that's where they're going to live. :0)

Sew-Along Month Two

I really don't know where the time goes, but two months of this year are gone already, and we're now starting the second month of our snowballs sew-along. For those of you following the sew-along guidelines, in March you will make another nine snowball blocks and another nine nine-patch blocks. And remember to add yourself to the linky thing on my sidebar, even if you don't get all your blocks made. We just want to be able to see what everyone else is doing, and this seems to be the best way to do that.

Here I have another 25 snowball blocks I made a week or so ago. I just need to add the center square to them all. I hope to do that today, them maybe lay out another couple of rows on my flimsy, if I have enough nine-patch blocks made. If not, I'll be sewing some more of those up later today too.
