Log Cabin Table Topper

The more I looked at the four log cabin blocks on my design wall, the more I liked them just the way they were. So today I sewed them together and made this little quilt. It measures about 23-1/2 inches square, and will be perfect on a table with a candle or basket in the  middle of it. Now I just have to figure out where to display it. I still have some bits left from the jelly roll...not sure if I'll do something with them now or just set them aside for a while.

And then there were four

Four log cabin blocks that is. I made two more blocks the same day I made the first two, and here are the four laid out together. I've not had any time to sew since then, but I hope to soon.

The flowers are so pretty this time of year. My daisies are in full bloom at the moment.

And here are two of my favorite iris. I love these colors together. :0)

Front Porch Re-Do

When we bought our house 15 years ago, it had blue railings on the porch. Several years ago we noticed the railing was rotting, so we took down the bad parts and left the posts and the top. A couple of weeks ago my son Brian and I were talking about finally redoing it, so he took some measurements and got a price for the materials for me. Yesterday morning we started taking down the rest of the old blue wood, and then went to the lumber yard. We got the posts and most of the railing up yesterday, and finished up the last of it today. I love the new look, and am so glad Brian was able to do this for me. Next I think I'm going to repaint the shutters...I just have to decide on a color. And see when Brian can help me do that too! :0)

Pure Log Cabin Blocks

Back when I bought the Pure charm pack that I just used up, I also bought a Pure jelly roll. I've been trying to figure out for a while now what I wanted to make with it. Today I went back and forth and was looking through some of my quilt books, and I finally decided to make some log cabin blocks. I have two done so far, and I'm really happy with them (they're each about 10 inches square). But the challenge with using a jelly roll is that there's just so much of each fabric, so my blocks won't all be the same. I guess I'll keep sewing until I run out of fabric, and see how many blocks I end up with. When I'm done with the blue and white prints, the rest of the blocks will be brown and cream prints. I'm not sure how that's all going to look together though...time will tell! :0)

Paper Pieced Pineapple

Thursday I finally found some time to sew, and got brave enough to give paper piecing another try. This time it was the pineapple block, and believe it or not, it came out just fine. The block is about 5-1/2 inches square and has 29 pieces of fabric in it. I made this block into a pincushion and have it sitting by the candle mat I made previously with these fabrics.

Sew-Along Month Four

Since I have no sewing to show you, I've got more baby bird pics instead! LOL I just wanted to show you what a difference a few days makes! Four days ago there were two babies and an egg. Today there are three babies, and one is apparently much more hungry than the others! LOL In just another 4-5 days, the little ones will be leaving the nest.

Now on to the sew-along...believe it or not, this is month four already. For those of you following along with the schedule, this month you'll make another nine nine-patch blocks and another nine snowball blocks. Only one more month to go and then we'll be finishing up the blocks and putting it all together! :0)
