Cutting up

It's been a busy month here, and I've not done any sewing. But I did finally do some cutting tonight. I've had a fat quarter bundle of "Serenity" for Henry Glass by Heather Mulder Peterson forever, and I've finally decided to make something with some of the fabrics. I love the soft browns and blues in this line, and since I've decided to redo the spare bedroom in these colors, I finally decided to cut them up and make something with them. There are greens in this line too but I'm not using them on this project. I cut nine-inch square blocks to make the most of the fat quarters, and now I have a stack of blocks to lay out tomorrow.

And here's all I had left of those fat quarters...not much waste on this project that's for sure!

And here's the beautiful sunset we had tonight. I just had to share it with you all.

And the winners are...

Thanks to everyone who left a comment on my giveaway post! There are some of you I couldn't reply to...those of you who are no-reply and those of you who for whatever reason I never got your comments in my in-box. I've had that happen a time or two in the past, so just to be safe, I went to the comments on my blog to make sure everyone was included in the giveaway. And without further ado, the winners are Debbie, Sunny and Sharon (I've already contacted them via email). Congratulations ladies! I'll be getting your books in the mail next week. :0)

And since I still don't have any sewing to show you, how about some more flowers. At the moment the clematis, daylilies and coreopsis are in bloom. They're all so pretty.

Giveaway time

I've been going through my sewing corner, and have come across some things I need to move on to new homes. So I decided to give these pattern books away. The first one is called "If Quilts Could Talk" from Whimsicals by Terri Degenkolb. You can see all the projects in it HERE.

The second book is also by Terri and it's called "Cabin Fever". You can view the projects in this book HERE.

And the last one for now is another one by Terri called "Tangled Up In Thread". You can take a look at some of the projects in this book HERE.

Just leave a comment and tell me which book would be your first and second choice if you win. I'll pick three winners on Friday. I have more things to share, so watch this space for more giveaways in the coming days and weeks! :0)

EDITED: If you're a no reply blogger, and don't leave your email in your comment, you won't be entered in the giveaway as I have no way to contact you.

Birds and Blooms

Last week I found another mourning dove nest. At the time it had two eggs in it. When I went to check yesterday, momma dove was sitting tight so I thought she must have chicks now, and sure enough once she flew off, there were two little ones in the nest. I found two more robins nests too, so I'm looking forward to seeing them hatch out as well.

This is a new rose for me this year. I wasn't planning on getting any new plants, but I couldn't resist this one. I just love the color! :0)

I have two planters on the deck. I love them there because the hummingbirds often come to visit them. The one is mostly purples and the other mostly pinks.

Time

I can't believe how fast the days and weeks are flying by right now. I have so much yard and flowerbed work to do that no matter how much I get done, I just can't seem to make any headway. With all the outdoor things I'm doing, there hasn't been any time for sewing, so I don't have any of that to show you. I did a little painting though. After redoing the porch railing, I decided it was time to repaint the chairs on the porch. I bought three cans of charcoal gray paint, and got two of the chairs finished. I love the gray color, and hope to get the other two chairs done this week yet.

The one is a wicker chair that has cushions in it. So off to the fabric store I went to get fabric for the cushions. This is what I ended up getting.

It goes well with the new welcome mat I bought the other day.

Now what?

I have a small problem. I've had a few people ask about the next sew-along...what will it be and when will it start. Unfortunately, I have no idea. I want to pick a quilt that I really want to make...that when I see it I just say wow...I want to make that! And I want something that's a free pattern, so all of you sewing along don't have to buy a pattern. And there lies the problem. I've spend a good part of the morning searching through free patterns online and I can't find anything that wows me. I have found a couple of things that I thought, OK, I wouldn't mind making that. But nothing that really excites me. And I being too picky? Maybe. But my sewing time is so limited that I know I need to find something I really want to make. So I need your help. If you know of any free patterns that you want to make, or think would be great for a sew-along, just leave me a comment or email me and let me know. I sure would appreciate the input, because quite simply, I'm stumped! LOL

Updated: I have come across something that I like. It's not a definite yet, but it's something to think about. Check out the Lattice Bones quilt HERE.

Sew-Along Month Five

Well here we are, at the last month of the snowballs and nine-patch blocks sew-along. For this final month you'll need to make 14 nine-patch blocks and 13 snowball blocks. When you lay out your blocks you'll have a nine patch in each corner of your quilt, and your quilt will be laid out nine blocks wide by eleven blocks high. If you want to add borders or make more blocks so your quilt is bigger, that's fine too. Thanks everyone for sewing along! :0)
