December Already?

Well, I completely missed posting anything in November. Some days I wonder if I should even keep this blog going. I guess it doesn't hurt if it just sits here but at the same time why have it if I'm not going to post on it.

Anyway, I have a baby quilt to make. I'm using cheater fabric because I don't know if the quilt will be taken care of or not, and I hated to spend a lot of time sewing if it was just going to get trashed (long story). I found some cute flannel and decided to just use the two layers of flannel and tie them together. I think it's going to be adorable when it's done.

I decided it was time for a new Christmas tree this year. I've always loved Alpine trees and since I'm in an apartment now, it just made sense to go with the smaller tree. It's all decorated in turquoise and silver...that's new for this year too. Once Christmas is over I'll take the ornaments off and leave the tree where it's at with just the white lights on it.

I've been desperately trying to get back to Florida for a vacation, and I've finally managed to get a place booked for April. This little apartment is right across the street from the beach. I have a feeling I'm not going to want to leave once I get there! lol

And I couldn't post without adding a picture of Ava. She'll be four months old on Friday.

No sewing yet, but...

Look at Miss Ava...she's already trying to get the hang of crawling and she's not even three months old yet! Sometimes she seems so grown up already.

Last Saturday was my mom and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary. They didn't want a party so we just took them out to eat. And then I got them a certificate for a night away at the Charm Countryview Inn Bed and Breakfast in Amish country. If you want to see pictures of their little trip away, you can find them on my mom's blog HERE.

It seems like everyone who comes to my house gets to nap while they're here. I think I need to get in on that too! lol

No sewing yet but I do have several projects I need to get working on. A friend of Emily's is expecting a baby in January, so a baby quilt will be first on my list. I hope to get the fabric for it either tomorrow or Monday so I can get started.

Life

Ava is growing up so fast already. She was 7 weeks old on Wednesday. She's such a happy girl when she's not mad about something. And when she's mad about something, she quickly lets us know!! LOL

The other day it was a bit cool and momma hadn't brought any pants or socks for her. So I let her borrow a pair of my socks. They look a bit like legwarmers on her but they did the job! LOL

We had quite a pretty sunset here the other night. Actually we've had quite a few pretty sunsets since I moved in here, but I normally don't think to get a picture of them.

I do want to apologize for not posting on here and for not commenting on your blogs. I do read them every day, but my computer time has been limited as I've spent a lot of time taking care of Ava. Emily has gone back to work now so I'll be seeing even more of Ava, which I dearly love, but it definitely cuts into the time I have for other things. And right now (well, always actually) Ava and Emily are more important than anything else.

Ava has good taste

I just had to share some pictures of Ava using the quilt and blanket I made for her. It's nice to know the things I made are loved and are being used. I know it was mom that really chose to use them, but I'd like to think that Ava likes them too! LOL

And here's a more recent picture of her. She's three weeks old today, although it seems like she's been with us forever.

A granddaughter is born

Welcome to the world Miss Ava Grace. She was born at 6:43 this morning. Both mom and baby are doing fine. Emily was in labor less than 8 hours and only had to push for about 15 minutes.

An Afternoon at the Park

Emily and I went to our local state park this afternoon to do a little walking. We thought it might help get her labor started. It didn't work but we walked about two miles and had a great time. We did see lots of nice boats on the lake.

This looks like just a pile of dead wood, but on that top branch is a chipmunk, literally out on a limb! LOL

The river and trees were so pretty today, and it was a great day for walking in the woods.

Emptying boxes

Yesterday was the big day, and while we did have a few hiccups along the way to deal with, I did get moved into my new place.

I never could have done it without the help of two of Emily's friends, both young and strong and with way more energy than I had.

This is just one small bunch of boxes...believe me there were lots more all over the place!

And yes...I drove the U-Haul truck and did a fine job. I even had to back it up a few times and I never ran into anything! LOL Now all that's left is to unpack everything and get it organized. That's going to take some time, but I did make great progress today. I'll try to post pictures once I get everything sorted out.

Moving day

Well, my moving day is almost here, and I'll be driving one of these tomorrow. I've never driven a moving van before, but it can't be that hard, right? LOL Thankfully I have two of Emily's friends to help me with the heavy stuff and with carrying all the boxes I've been packing up for months now. It's going to be wonderful to be moved into my own apartment, and I can't wait to start unpacking and settling in. :0)

In other news, yesterday Emily and I worked on getting the baby's room set up. She only has three more weeks until her due date, so little Ava could make an appearance any time now. At least she has a bed to sleep in when she gets home.

Emily wanted to hang up all the cards she got at her baby shower, so we strung some twine up and used mini clothes pins to attach the cards to the twine. We both love how it came out and it really brightens up the room. I'll be making a wall quilt with the baby's name on it for the other wall after I get moved and unpacked.

It's almost time

I can't wait for my new granddaughter to arrive. Only about three more weeks until the big event. We had a baby shower for Emily on Sunday and she finally let me take a picture of her baby bump. Right now she's all belly! :0)

Here she is with the little dress my mom made for the baby.

And this is the quilt I made for the baby. I can finally show it now that I've given it to her. I kept it simple because I wanted to make sure she used it. I knew if I did a fancier pattern she'd set it aside to keep it nice. If this one gets worn out, I'll just make another! :0)

Up, up and away

Many years ago I was lucky enough to crew for a hot air balloon. I've always loved them and at one time I dreamed of having one of my own. That never happened but I still love seeing them fly. Last weekend Emily and I went to a nearby town that was having their annual balloonfest. We had so much fun chasing the balloons. Here are just a few of the many pictures I took.

What's been happening here

First of all, Emily graduated from high school. She didn't want a big party so we just had the grandparents in for lunch and cake.

Then she moved out into her first apartment. It only took two trips to get her things all moved. We're so grateful for the two friends of hers who helped us that day.

And I have new wheels parked in my garage. I've driven a Jeep for the past 16 years, so I'm used to a vehicle like this. I'm not used to driving something new though. That's taken some getting used to. But I do love it!

And here's a pic of Emily's baby bump. She's only got about 7 weeks left until her due date. I can't wait to meet my granddaughter! :0)

Sharing some chickens

Not real ones...cross stitched chickens! When we were helping mom sort out stuff at her house a while back, lots of her stuff came to my house. Now that I'm sorting things out getting ready to move, I'm only keeping the things I really love. I came across this cross stitch piece that was in a frame my dad had made. It's a cute cross stitch, but I'm not into chickens. My friend Carol is however. So I unframed the cross stitch (so I could keep the frame) and turned the stitchery into a little wall hanging for Carol. Now that she's received it, I can finally post about it. :0)

Baby robins

Every spring we find a nest or two of baby robins in the yard. I'm always amazed at how fast they grow up. I took the first picture three days ago and the second one today. They've changed so much in three days. Another five to six days and they'll be leaving the nest. There are four little ones in there...I couldn't tell in the first picture but I counted four beaks in the second one! :0)

Baby stuff

Once the t-shirt quilt was done, it was time to move on to baby things. First was the minky blanket. I just folded the fabric in half right sides together, and sewed all around, leaving a small opening to turn the blanket right side out. Once that was done I pinned it all the way around to keep it straight, and did a top stitch close to the edge. It's all finished now and is wrapped up for the baby shower in July. Aren't those hippos so cute?

Next was a little wall hanging. My grandmother had made this cross stitch piece for me many years ago. I took it out of the frame, and made a little wall quilt out of it using the same fabric to border it that I'm going to be using in the baby quilt. I though it was kind of cool that my grandmother made this for me, and now I've made it into a keepsake for my granddaughter to be. I didn't show this to Emily so it will be a surprise for her when she opens it at her baby shower. Next on the list is to start cutting blocks for the baby quilt.

I'm on a roll

I got the t-shirt quilt back from Joanne the other day, and yesterday I got the binding made and attached to the quilt. It's been washed and dried and is now ready to go to its new home. I'm so pleased with how this one came out. :0)
