Hello again!

OK...I know I said I was done blogging and I was for about a month. Then I just missed it so I'm back. I'm also trying to get back to my sewing and I wanted to be able to share that with you. So here I am! :0).

We took a quick trip a while back to Brandywine Falls. I've always wanted to go there and I'm so glad to finally have made it. A lot of the leaves had come down a few days before but there was still some color and the falls were breathtaking!

We also took time out to chase the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railway train a bit. Ava and I have come to love this train since we first started chasing it back in September. Hopefully in the spring we can go for another ride on it.

Emily, Ava and I went up to mom's the other day and ended up making a batch of my great grandma's sugar cookies. My kids always loved making them when they were little and visited grandma. We had Grandpa take a picture of us because it was four generations baking together. That doesn't happen very often.

It's been fun! :0)

When I started my blog on August 12, 2008, I had no idea what a huge role it would play in my life. Over the years I've met so many amazing quilters and have made many true friends. I've had the pleasure of sharing my quilting journey with you all, and of sharing yours with you. I know I don't have many readers left...my sewing time has been extremely limited the last few years so there hasn't been much reason for anyone to keep following along. But I have to say a huge thank you to those who have stuck with me until the end. And yes...this is the end. After 11 years I feel it's time to put my blog to rest.

I want to thank every single one of you who has ever read a post and left a comment. It really has meant more to me than you'll ever know. I've just ordered a blog book of the last few years of my blog, and once it gets here, my blog will be deleted. Life definitely has seasons, and this one is over for me. I wish you all the best! :0)

A New Month

How is it possible that another month has come and gone. The days and weeks just fly by. They say time flies when you're having fun, but I have to tell you that for me it flies whether I'm having fun or not! lol And on the side of having fun, our local scenic railway had a steam engine from Ft. Wayne, Indiana visiting for two weekends. The first weekend Ava and I just went and watched from afar. But the second weekend on Sunday (it's last run for the year here) we ended up going for a ride. We really enjoyed it and can hardly wait for the steam engine to return next September.

I knew nothing about this steam engine before out little journey began. But I was intrigued by it and started doing some research. It was built right here in Ohio, in Lima and began operating in 1944. It continued until it was retired in 1958, having been replaced by the new diesel locomotives. Thankfully this engine was stored indoors after its retirement, and at one point because of its good condition, it was put on display. Several years later, a group of steam engine enthusiasts decided to restore it and give it a new life. It moved under its own power again for the first time in 1979, and as the saying goes, the rest is history. If you're interested in learning more about it, you can go HERE.

Summer fun

So it's been a while since i posted on here. Some days I wonder why I even still have my blog as I can't seem to find the time to sew anything. But for now I guess I'll keep it. Right after we went to the zoo in June my son Brian, grandson Boog and I went zip lining. Boog was scared to death but he ended up having a great time as I knew he would.

A couple of weeks ago I went to Delaware to see a friend of mine. We spent four days at the beach and got to see one sunrise, one moon rise and several sunsets. We also got to sit and watch thunderstorms coming in two different nights. That was pretty cool.

I was so happy to see palm trees around the pool at the motel we stayed at. Of course they were potted and have to go to a greenhouse in the winter. But they definitely made the place feel more beachy. And we got to see several lighthouses too. A couple were just smaller decorative ones but three of them were full size. We took a dolphin tour too and got to see dozens of dolphins in the ocean. It was a great trip! :0)

A Day at the Zoo

We went to the zoo on Friday and had a great time! We saw lots of animals of course but the giraffes, manatees and flamingos were the best! :0)

Time flies

I can't believe I've been home from the beach for a week already. The time sure did fly by but I have so many wonderful memories of my time there. Here are just a few pictures I want to share with you. The wildlife and scenery is just amazing!

We watched this guy catching fish that had washed up onto the beach in the seaweed.

We took a boat ride our last afternoon and saw this beautiful home along the way.

The boat ride was actually a dolphin tour and we did see one but just for a few minutes.

This guy was hanging out at the fishing village where all the local fishing boats dock.

And while I haven't done any sewing lately, I have done something crafty. This birdhouse used to be in all country colors...barn red, forest green, and dark blue. I repainted it in colors that more match my decor.

What a great week!

I've always wanted to go parasailing, and on Wednesday that got checked off my bucket list. It was so much fun! If you ever get the chance, you must give it a try! :0)

Today we drove about an hour south of where we're staying to check out a different beach. They were working on the pier as it was damaged when Hurricane Irma came through in 2017. The pier at the north end of the island we're staying on was so damaged they tore the whole thing down and are rebuilding it from scratch.

This is the view from the beach cafe we've been eating at when we're out and about. They have great breakfasts and lunches. I'm definitely going to miss it!

Florida vacation Day 1

We arrived yesterday afternoon, and I already feel more relaxed than I have in a long time! :0)

The Sunshine Skyway bridge crossing Tampa Bay.

The sunsets at the beach are always beautiful.

I love the beach in the morning! :0)

The beach is right across the street from where we stay.

A finish! :0)

Ava was off visiting friends yesterday, so I got busy and finished her wall quilt. It's the first sewing finish I've had in over a year and the first time I've done any machine quilting in even longer. I did loops around the letters and then did a wavy line around the edge of the middle. I think it worked well and I'm happy with how it came out. We just have to get it put up on her wall today.

A new bed and maybe some sewing

Ava has been growing like a weed, and her crib was definitely getting too small for her. So yesterday the crib came down and Ava's big girl bed went into her room. She had to try out the mattress when it was still on the living room floor.

And then while I was trying to get a picture of her in her new bed, she kept fluffing the sheet! lol My dad made this bed for Emily when it was time for her to move up from her crib to a twin bed.

One thing I've been wanting to make for Ava is a wall quilt with her name on it. I made two different ones for Emily over the years. So with the new bedding it seemed like the perfect time to start on the wall quilt. I wanted it to match the bedding so off to the fabric store Ava and I went. Note to self...don't take Ava fabric shopping again. Anything she could reach, she threw into my cart! lol After removing the unwanted items from my cart and trying to keep her in the middle of the aisles where she couldn't reach anything, I finally came home with a jelly roll to use for the borders and a pretty tone on tone for the background behind her name. The three colors I'll use for the letters were in my stash. Now I just have to find the time to actually work on it. :0)

On the cancer front, clinically I'm doing well as there are more good things than bad going on. The real problem now is my white blood cell count. It's low and I can't have any more chemo until it comes back up to where it's supposed to be. But I had a cold for a while and then I had shingles. So I think I used up a lot of my white cells fighting those things off. The doctor said there's nothing I can do to improve the count...just be patient and wait for it to fix itself. Meanwhile I'm now two weeks behind on my third chemo session. Hopefully Monday things will be back where they belong and I'll be able to get my third treatment.
