World Cancer Day

Image result for cancer graphics

I went to the doctor today for blood work and a doctor's visit with the nurse practitioner. Last Monday my hemoglobin was 7.1.Today it was 8.6. That means my bone marrow is working better than it has in a long time, which means the chemo is killing off the cancer cells in my bone marrow, which means the chemo is working already! That’s certainly good news!

One other thing I wanted to share that you may not know (I didn't) is that there are basically two categories when it comes to cancer. The first is solid cancers like breast cancer, lung cancer, etc. which all have a tumor of some sort involved. The other is liquid cancer, which means it's a bunch of nasty cells in the blood...there is no tumor. I think everyone associates cancer with tumors, but that's not always the case.

I have Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, which means there are no tumors...just lots of nasties floating around in my blood, bone marrow, spleen, etc. My entire lymphatic system has been affected by it. But at the moment things are going well, and I'm hopeful they'll continue that way.

  4. Great news!! And isn't it amazing how much we learn about an illness when we or a loved one are directly affected by it. We pay much closer attention at those times.
